Gikuyu and Mumbi would be proud that this custom has not been wiped out.

According to Kikuyu customs, a Ruracio is a must.

Ruracio is the formal dowry payment in the Kikuyu culture. The groom comes to the bride’s home with gifts and partakes in different activities. Once they reach a final agreement, then the next step is Ngurario, which is the traditional wedding ceremony. Nowadays, most couples prefer to merge the ceremonies to save time.

Although the significance of these rich cultures has not evolved, the outfits adorned for these events have evolved drastically over time. During the traditional wedding ceremony, even though it's not a must, most couples used to wear the Kikuyu traditional outfits - brown outfits bejeweled with cowrie shells. Nowadays the presentation and execution of these regalia have been modernized while still maintaining the essence of the root of the culture.

Lani Apparels is quickly cementing itself as the go-to for traditional wedding outfits, and Ankara bomber jackets among other fashion statement pieces, and their work speak for itself. We provide the fashionable Ruracio and Ngurario as well as the jewelry and ornaments to mark the event.

Have a look at some photos of our Ruracio collections on our shop.
